What's Your Skin Type

How To Identify Your Skin Type
(According to Dermatologists)

Not getting the results you hoped for? Your skin type may have changed over time. Different types of skin have unique needs, and identifying your type is the first step to properly caring for it.

There's no single product that works for everyone.

The American Academy of Dermatology recognizes five primary types of skin:

  • Normal
  • Dry Skin
  • Oily Skin
  • Combination
  • Sensitive
However, your skin type can change over time... That means how you care for it also has to change. Skin type can shift depending on your genetics, the environment your in, hormones, diet and age. A Deeper Look At The Five Types

Oily Skin

Oily skin is caused by the overproduction of sebum from the sebaceous glands. It makes your face appear shiny and feels greasy, especially in the T-zone (forehead, nose and chin). Excess sebum can clog the pores and is more prone to blackheads and acne.
The upside is, those with oily skin are less likely to have wrinkles. Those struggling with excess oil would really benefit from our Cleanser Gel and the Purifying Astringent Pads.

Dry Skin

Those with dry skin naturally produce less sebum (skin oil) which would normally lubricate the skin and help protect it. Without enough natural oils, your skin looses moisture quickly and can become visibly dehydrated, dull, flaky and scaly. It may feel tight and show more fine lines.

Those who struggle with dry skin would really enjoy the Soothing & Balancing Toner and the rich hydration of Moisture Intensiv™ Restorative Crème.

Combination Skin

Some with combination skin will notice that some areas of their face are quite dry, while others are more oily. The T-zone (forehead, nose and chin) are typically more oily than the cheeks which can lead to an uneven look. You may notice red patches in some areas and shine in others. That's where the Soothing Cleanser Milk and our Collagen Eye Pads can balance things out and make a real difference.

Normal Skin

Normal skin often feels hydrated and comfortable. Not too oily or dry and not really prone to any specific problems like acne, redness or shine.

Like all skin types, proper care still helps repair, rehydrate and restore the skin's natural glow. Using a Soothing & Balancing Toner and the Balancing Cleanser Milk maintains a calm and radiant complexion.

Sensitive Skin

If your skin is more reactive than most, it may be more vulnerable to irritants. Easily triggered skin reacts with fragrances, foreign ingredients and environmental factors like polution. if you experience redness, stings, burns or irritation after applying some skincare products, you likely have sensitive skin. You may wish to try our Soothing Serum specifically designed to be non-irritating and gentle.
