Why Skin Sags With Age
Why Skin Gets Looser With Age
As our beautiful skin ages as gracefully as it can, it loses two important proteins — elastin and collagen. Most of those effects are caused by sunlight and other UV ray exposure.
The loss of strength can happen anywhere on the body, but the most obvious areas are the face, neck, abdomen, and arms.
You’ve no doubt heard the unflattering phrase “turkey neck”.
Here are the four main causes:
A Loss of Collagen
The main purpose of collagen is keeping skin tight and firm, but as age increases the amount of collagen available is depleted.
Reduced Elastin
Elastin is the protein found in skin that (just like it sounds) provides the elasticity that allows skin to stretch and snap back to it’s original form. It also helps reduce wrinkles
The Effects of Gravity
We’re all impacted by shifting gravitational effects pulling our skin and moving fats under the skin. Some studies suggest it can displace skin, making it appear saggy or wrinkled.
Sun Exposure and UV Rays
Damage from certain wavelengths of light cause a significant decrease in our available collagen. Sunlight causes oxidative stress in skin cells, which leads to inflammation.
That’s why we worked with dermatologists to create our Neck & Bust Intensiv™ Firming Crème. Its naturally sourced ingredients help reduce the appearance of sagging and help enhance elasticity.
